(Note not the British Olympics). This momentous waste of time‚ money and inconvenience can at last be consigned to the history books – just the usual round of awards and knighthoods to bestow on those who have done little in their lives apart from run‚ throw‚ swim or ride horses. I am sickened by the constant reference to ‘Our Heroes’ – what a load of old tosh this is. Heroes my friends‚ are the guys who lay down their lives for us‚ Heroes are those who save the life of others at their own peril‚ Hero’s are those who work all hours God sends to heal and mend‚ Heroes are those who quietly develop lifesaving drugs and those who look after the sick‚ those who give their time to help others and ask for no reward. It seemed like every television programme and news-organ was stuffed with long rambling reports (sometimes longer than the event referred to) of “Heroes winning Epic battles” – What a load of old rubbish! Epic is a term given to ancient poetry of a grand nature depicting heroic deeds or feats………………. But I doubt if jumping over a stick really is in this league. The cost of this over-hyped excuse for the government to deflect attention and throw the proletariat a few crumbs of cake in this difficult time‚ was wholly unjustified and the expenditure accounts of this prodigal pointless exercise could truly be called‚ in modern parlance‚ Epic. The original estimate was £2.4bn. Later it was adjusted to £3.3bn then to £9.4bn and on July 26th this year an independent group issued accounts showing a sum of £11.6bn had been spent‚ with a final figure expected to be in the region of £17bn. Can you imagine any business being £14.6bn out on an initial tender price? Only a UK bank could do this. The government has no money for education‚ kids leaving school with basic reading and writing skills‚ no money to keep pensioners off the breadline‚ no money for job creation‚ some will go from cot to cemetery without having worked. No money for health care or hospitals. Cut backs everywhere including our armed services – but for Lord Coe……….an open cheque book! Let’s just watch the next comical round of OBE’s and knighthoods for those heroes who won epic contests jumping over sticks and throwing things. I noticed misery-guts Murray actually won something at last yesterday‚ and he almost smiled……… suppose it will be Lord Murray next week in recognition for his new found skills in hitting a ball with a bat and making himself very rich in the process.

At last the ‘London Olympics’ are over – thank God.
