One hundred and eighty years ago the British slavery act came into being. During the last few years we have seen the return of sales assistants in the store of Matalan become the modern day slaves. You may ask what am I talking about‚ let me explain. This store opened Christmas Eve just like all major stores and supermarkets and closed on Christmas Day. A certain lady I know who works for them worked Christmas Eve‚ had Christmas day off‚ however‚ had to be at the store for 4am having got up at 3.30am for the Boxing Day sales. The whole purpose of this sale‚ was to discount stock new and old‚ to sell to the mainly ethnic Asian population‚ who would you believe were actually queuing at 4.00am. The store did not open until 5.00am only for viewing‚ then at 6.00am legally the stock could be sold. I asked what was her role in this new form of slavery‚ she responded it was to pick up the clothes thrown on the floor in the madness that is known as the Boxing Day sales. I would request that you relay this story to friends‚ and that we raise awareness of this modern day slavery that is Matalan. Shame on you Matalan.
