Whilst snowed in between christmas and new year I did the family tree. Got quite carried away with it and eventually got back to the 1200’s with my direct paternal line to Burnley and Pendle Forest. Today I did the 1st stage of the Burnley Way walk‚ which is in 6 stages about 40 miles. You have to admire the Victorians‚ as you will know I do. Everything we aspire to is based from their foundations about how we live our lives. The railways‚ architecture‚ housing‚ working patterns‚ mills now mostly closed‚ townhalls‚ etc. Just take a walk around any northern town/city and look up‚ to admire just what the Victorians built. There creations have stood for 150 years‚ not like the little boxes we throw up now for people to live in. The charm and grime of some areas is to be admired all in one. Uniformed streets of terrace properties formed communities‚ not like our housing which is obsessed with detached living‚ ie: get home shut the door and live in our own little world. Is it any wonder society has broken down over here when we don’t even neighbour any more. Take your hat off to the Victorians and toast their legacies.
