Welcome to the real world young people. Now I don’t profess to be intelligent in fact at O levels I failed miserably‚ mainly because I was good at sport and dream’t of playing for Leeds or Yorkshire. However‚ I do have a good IQ and in some respect my exams held me back from other ambitions. But I totally advocate getting back to harder exams. We have all met teenagers who think they are clever with a boast of A levels and GCSE’S‚ but who cannot add up or take away‚ do not know capital cities‚ I could go on but you get my drift. We have churned out a generation of young people who think they are clever and are being put in positions of importance‚ but in reality us oldies can knock spots of them streetwise and knowledge wise. Why because we were taught properly with discipline‚ and if lucky at a grammar school where you were there to learn‚ with hard exams at the end‚ not course work assessment. So I am afraid as an employer I can see that we have to revert back to the older days if we are to make the most of our bright kids. In my day only the clever went to University‚ I was not good enough‚ but did not resent those that went. I knew my place and in fact I have developed a good life style‚ by hard work and common sense.
